Summer of the Skirt: Hazards

It's the Summer of the Skirt. Or Summer of the Dress . Summer of Pantslessness, perhaps. Anyway, these are the inconveniences I've encountered thus far: My current favourite skirt. Cost me $5. Also, the guilty party in story #3. 1. You have to shave more frequently. This isn't about being anti-shaving. It's about being lazy. And fair-haired. But the extra five minutes in the shower are worth it in feel-good points. 2. You will get more attention when out and about. Partially, it is because you carry yourself taller when you feel better about yourself, and that confidence is notable. Partially, it is because you have legs. Either way, it happens. Be prepared.* 3. You will inevitably expose your undergarments at least once, no matter how careful you are. This will, of course, happen near a busy intersection when one hand is full and the other is rifling through your bag for the mail you are trying to drop off. Stay calm, don't make eye contact with the peopl...

Happy Month-iversary to ME

I have been home from Spain for one month. Where did it go? I don't know. But since I'm still thinking about Spain, I'm still blogging about Spain. One of my favourite parts of the trip (as everyone has been asking) is how much laughter there was. The days were not always easy, and things did not always happen perfectly. But we laughed. Oh, we laughed. Mostly, I laughed at K's incredibly fast wit. Here is a list of some of the funniest things she said during the trip. It all started with this one, on the plane: Flight attendant: (speaking with a French accent) We're going to dime the lights shortly... K: We're going to dime these things til they're nickeled! After that, I kept a detailed log. These are in chronological order, and as out-of-context as my quote entries usually are. The great thing, though, is that in my head I can picture the context for each one and it has me giggling all over again. I just touched my tongue to my arm...

Three Thoughts

Someone told me this morning that they are looking forward to hearing my Spain story. "So am I," I replied. I am not sure yet what my "Spain story" is. Or if there can be a definitive, streamlined, simple-to-share summary. I had a really reflective walk home this afternoon. I almost missed how beautiful the sunshine and the clouds were. I like that when I got into the apartment, I could sit and sort out my brain with a little help from my roommate. It is good to be home. This week is the first time in a year that I have been off work and at home for more than a long weekend. Tomorrow I am making a list of things I need to/want to do...job-hunting/confirming is a priority. But so is relaxing. I think I can manage to do both. Especially if jet-lag keeps waking me up at 6am every day.

Jet Lag Increases Productivity

Since I woke up at 6:30am and have a computer and the internet right in my very own home (it is good to be here), I started editing some photos from the trip and now I'm sharing them with you...  Sacre Coeur Basilica in Paris  Ready to Roll (Walk) in Bilbao  The Bruised and Broken(?) Toe   Beach Day! (an accidentally amazing background capture...)   Sunrise (made 6am wake-up worth it)

Summertime City Sounds: A 2010 Mix

To celebrate the end of August (or rather, to mourn the end of the summer), these are the songs that have been added to my "Currently Loving" playlist since I moved back to Ontario. I have been influenced greatly by Heather from Colorado this past year, although only one song off her summer mix made it onto mine. I also noticed there is a little overlap with my friend Jessica's summer mix . Pure coincidence. If I were making an actual album, the cover would be a photo I took on Amelia's camera last week. But I don't have that photo yet. *cough* I'm not upset though, because she's moving this week. For the second time in a month. If I were burning this onto a CD for each of you, I would have to shorten the list, but I'm not, so I won't. If I had more broadband and/or paid for remote storage, I would upload it somewhere for you all to download and listen. But I don't, so I can't. And now that you're all itching to see the actual list,...
